(I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.)
This story is about the Shepherd family. Gene has been feeling very alone as of late after the passing of his wife and the departure of his only child as she moves in with a boyfriend he’s never been too fond of. Grown used to his own routine, he never expected to see Patrick Frye at his door way more times than necessary. While Gene is forced to face his past, his daughter is going through her own issues. Chelsea’s relationship with Greg is turning for the worst. At the final straw, she leaves and finds comfort surprisingly right next door. With the help from new friendships, will both Gene and Chelsea ever find their way back to one another?
This book is about family and finding one’s way in the world. Chelsea had lost her way when she dropped everything in order to be with Greg, all the while ignoring every red sign along the way. Gene is suppressing his own pain since you can tell all he wants is to be around family but with the loss of his wife, he doesn’t want to push Chelsea even further than she already is so he decides to keep to himself instead. The pages in this book were so full of hope and determination to make things right again. It’s a beautiful story about faith and getting back on track after being derailed for far too long.
This novel was so well-written and was such a smooth read. You could jump right in and already get a sense of who these characters are. This is definitely one of those books that people shouldn’t miss out on reading.
I give this novel a rating of 5 out of 5!
