This book starts off really strong. It has a great pace and the writing is very easy to follow. There’s action the whole way through and the whole survival aspect of it really won us over. In general, we did enjoy the story. There were only a few things that we didn’t like and because of these, we’re all most likely not going to continue reading this series. One of the things that we didn’t enjoy was the love triangle. It felt really forced and the moments felt wrong, especially with the way they were running for their lives. I feel like in that kind of situation, their focus should have been elsewhere. I’m in no way saying that this book wasn’t enjoyable. We couldn’t put it down. Throughout most of my experience reading it, I’ve been recommending this book to people left and right. The one element that really made us DNF this series was the ending. Since I can’t really get into detail onto why it frustrated us due to spoilers, I’m only going to say that we were hoping for more world development and new obstacles.
If you’re looking for a dystopian book with survival and lots of action, I definitely recommend this book but if you’re looking for a book that explores beyond its barriers and that you never know what will happen next, this might leave you a bit disappointed.
We give this book a 3 out of 5 feathers.
