In a dying world, everyone escapes the dreadfulness that is reality to a virtual paradise that is the OASIS. In the OASIS, you can be anyone you want to be and explore a vast world of infinite possibilities. In this digital reality, the creator of the OASIS has managed to hide an Easter egg in his game, one that can only be found after solving various puzzles based on 80s pop culture. Whoever solves the many riddles will win his fortune and after many years, Wade Watts finds himself on the scoreboard after solving the first clue. With many people now desperate to find the egg, the race is now more dangerous than he ever believed.
I’ve been hearing amazing things about this book for years but kept putting it off. Man, do I ever regret waiting so long to read this book! It was AMAZING! The world was so well-designed and written in a way that I can really visualize everything. I even forgot for a good part of the book that it was a virtual reality. I can see why they prefer to live in this digital world. I loved the riddles and I felt just as devoted to solving them as the characters. I loved everything – the futuristic technology, the surrealism and 80s pop culture found throughout the entirety of the book.
I’m so happy that they’re making a movie based on this novel and from what I see in the trailer so far, they seem to definitely be on point in terms of technology and the unreal wonderment that is the OASIS. I simply can’t wait to see it.
5 out of 5 feathers!!!
