“I wasn’t being noble. There was nothing noble about a thirst for revenge. It was about getting what I wanted, a chance to kill the king. And no one else would have to suffer because of me.” – Frostblood by Elly Blake
Being a huge fan of the Red Queen series, I was looking for something similar to read. Ruby is a Fireblood in a world where they aren’t accepted. After having hidden her powers for as long as she could, her mother gets killed trying to keep her safe. In order to get her revenge, she has to learn her true potential as a Fireblood. Though the general idea was pretty similar to Red Queen, the overall story was pretty unique and all its own. I really enjoyed this book and how bad-ass and strong the main character is. If you’re looking for a cool YA fantasy to start, look no further! It has lots of action and a slow-progressing romance that you will love. I’m very happy that the second book will be releasing within the same year!
I gave this one a 5 out of 5!
“A Diabolic is ruthless. A Diabolic is powerful. A Diabolic has a single task: Kill in order to protect the person you’ve been created for.” – The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid
This book was intense! To me, it was like A Game of Thrones but in space! Nemesis is a Diabolic created to protect a girl named Sidonia. One day, the Emperor decides to summon Sidonia to galactic court. Displeased with what her father had done, she is being sent there as a hostage. Not wanting her to be in danger, Nemesis goes in her place. No one can know that she is a Diabolic. She has to blend in or everything will be for naught. With the power-hunger emperor trying to stop a rebellion from happening, one Nemesis might be caught up in, and with the realization that she might be more human than she ever thought, who will come out of the rubble alive? The story is a bit darker than what I’m used to but you really get sucked into the story and there’s not only one plot twist, there are so many that stop you in your tracks and leave you in shock!
I gave this read a 4.5 out of 5 feather rating!
“‘If you kill him, you’re as bad as he is,’ Zoe said. ‘It’s not our job to punish people.’
X lowered his head.
‘Perhaps it is not yours.’” – The Edge of Everything by Jeff Giles
Absolutely everything about this book was so cool and creative. The plot was a fantasy that felt like a contemporary and the cover itself held such cool elements. Not only was the design intriguing but the side pages showed the words One More Soul. I usually see books with side pages in various colors but I’ve never owned one with words on it. The story is about a girl named Zoe who goes out in a blizzard to find her younger brother and two dogs. Once together, they get attacked and shortly after, their normal world won’t seem so normal anymore. A bounty hunter, literally from Hell, arrives for the sole purpose of retrieving the soul of their attacker. This story was so fun to read. There’s romance, a lot of twists and turns that keep you wanting to read more.
I rated this 4 out of 5 feathers!
“Hope is a powerful thing. Some say it’s a different breed of magic altogether. Elusive, difficult t hold on to. But not much is needed.” – Caraval by Stephanie Garber
I hereby officially dub Caraval as my new favorite book. It was AMAZING. It’s about a girl who always dreamed of participating in this crazy-cool, magical game called Caraval where magic lives and you never know what’s real or part of the game. Just before her arranged marriage, she gets an invitation to go with her sister and once there, they get separated. Her sister is the one she has to find for this year’s game. The prize? One wish. Everything about this book was fantastic. The imagery, the colors and I just felt like I was part of a dream the whole way through. You question everything because like our main character, you get lost in the magic of it all.
Read. This. Book. 5 out of 5!!!
Isn't this book cover absolutely stunning?
