Firstlife is such a unique world. Instead of living one life, you have a firstlife and a secondlife. In your firstlife, you find yourself in the Land of the Harvest, also known as Earth. When you die, you go to your secondlife. Secondlife consists of two realms, Troika and Myriad, who are currently at war with each other. You’re supposed to pick which realm you would like to go to after you die. If you don’t pick however, you are known as unsigned and if you die, you find yourself in this place called the Many Ends.
This story revolves around Tenley Lockwood, a girl that is having a really tough time trying to figure out which path to take and so she is currently unsigned. Sent off to the Prynn Asylum by her parents as a push for her to pick the realm that they want, she refuses to give in as she wants the choice to be her own. Both realms are also determined to get her on their side because they strongly believe that she will one day be the answer they need to win the war. They send down laborers to get close to her and win her trust. But who can she really trust? And will she stay alive long enough to figure everything out?
This book. You all know that I’ve been obsessing over Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard since last year but my heart is having a war of its own right now. I can’t decide if Firstlife is head to head with Red Queen or if it might actually be better. Gena’s writing is phenomenal. She writes with such a perfect pace; there’s just enough action that just before you feel like it’s slowing down, something happens again and there’s just enough charm and romance but not too much that it takes away from everything else. She writes so vividly to the point where I could easily picture both realms and the horrors of Many Ends perfectly. And the betrayal! You really don’t know who to trust and who is really on your side. Plot twists are everywhere and I’ve had moments where I had to stop and think: wow, I really didn’t see that coming. I really can’t get enough of this book guys. I’m tempted to re-read it right now just because I don’t want to let go of the story.
I give this book a 5 out of 5 rating but if I could, I would give it a 6. I really recommend you guys read this book. It was just so good and so unique. It blew my mind and I’m at that point right now where I just can’t stop talking about it.
B and Cat haven't gotten the chance to tell me their ratings yet but I will update this as soon as they get back to me!
If you’ve read this book, what realm would you have gone to?
I would have totally picked Troika! Light Brings Sight!
