The Intimidating TBR Book Tag!

5/29/2016

My TBR list is growing so much this year and I have that awful habit I have, with a bunch of new awesome reads coming out, I tend to buy more. I even have To-Buy list going on even though I probably have at least 100 books that I haven’t gotten around to reading yet. So I’ve decided to make a summer goal for myself. After rounding down my To-Buy list to two books that I absolutely need to read this summer, I went to purchase them last Friday and those will be the last two books that I’m purchasing all summer. I have a few friends that laughed because they don’t believe I can do it but I believe in myself, guys! It’ll give me a chance to catch up with what I already own while also saving a lot of money. In light of this new Summer Resolution, I’ve decided to do The Intimidating TBR Book Tag! I first saw this on Sasha Alsberg’s YouTube channel and tried to find the original by Lindsey Rey but the link to it didn’t seem to work for me. I’ll link it anyways in case it works at your end! Let’s get started!

1. What book have you been unable to finish?

The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray
I absolutely flew through the first two books in the Gemma Doyle Trilogy. With a mix of historical fiction and fantasy, this series was so unique to me. However with the first book having approximately 400 pages and the second having around 500, the third book with its 848 pages felt very intimidating.

2. What book do you have yet to read because you just haven’t had the time?

The Raven Boys series by Maggie Stiefvater

I really want to get into this series this summer. I feel like when I start it, I’d like to binge read my way through the entirety of its series which is why I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

3. What book do you have yet to read because it’s a sequel?

The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson

I loved The Kiss of Deception. It was my first review on here and I highly recommend everyone to read it. I honestly don’t know why I didn’t get around to reading the sequel. I even bought it right after I finished reading the first one. Another one on my TBR pile!

4. What book do you have yet to read because it’s brand new?

Flawed by Cecelia Ahern

I received this copy in my April OwlCrate box and I can’t wait to read it! Dystopia is one of my favorite genres and I’m really excited to see where Cecelia goes with this new series of hers. I hear so many good things and it’s definitely on top of my list to read in the next few months.

5. What book do you have yet to read because you read a book by the same author and didn’t enjoy it?

I don’t own any of her books anymore but I am kind of hesitant to buy The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L. Armentrout. It sounds like it could be really good but I used to own her novel Half Blood and I had such a hard time getting into it. I felt like her writing style wasn’t for me but I keep hearing from everyone else how amazing she is. Maybe if I try another of her books? If you guys have one in mind, please let me know!

6. What book do you have yet to read because you’re just not in the mood for it?

The Cage by Megan Shepherd

I hear so many good things about this one and I bought it thinking it was definitely going to be my next read. It then followed with me not really being in the mood for a book involving aliens. I’ll definitely get to it though soon. The second one just came out I think and I’ve read a lot of good reviews.

7. What book do you have yet to read because it’s humongous?

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

I am in love with the TV series right now and I received the 10th year Anniversary edition of Outlander last Christmas. I am super excited to read this book but I will admit that the size is very intimidating. I feel like this should be a read when I don’t have books to read from NetGalley or similar sites. This book needs to be read at the pace it deserves to really immerse into the story. If you haven’t seen my Outlander Prize Pack that I won, please check it out here!

8. What book do you have yet to read because it’s a cover-buy that ended up not having great reviews.

The Ring and the Crown by Melissa de la Cruz

After falling in love with the cover, I did do a bit of research but not too much. I’m a huge fan of books involving royalty and it was said to contain some drama similar to the likes of Reign and so I wanted to give it a shot. I sadly haven’t gotten around to it yet and after reading some negative reviews, I’ve been putting it off a bit. I am still interested in reading it though. Who knows, even though others don’t seem fond of it doesn’t mean I won’t absolutely love it, right?

9. What is the most intimidating book on your TBR?

The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

Ugh, this one is my most intimidating on my TBR by far. I have like two copies of the first book and when I moved in with my boyfriend, he brought books 1 to 5 but I still haven’t gotten around to even reading the first one. Do you guys think I should set that as yet another summer goal?

Ok, here we go!

1. What book have you been unable to finish?
A. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I lost my paper copy shortly after moving in my current apartment, and my electronic copy was erased from my Kobo account for some reason.

2. What book do you have yet to read because you just haven’t had the time?
A. The National Geographic Society: 100 Years of Adventure and Discovery. It's a BIG book and I've been reading 4 to 5 pages at a time max. because it's bursting with historical information and it's a lot to take in. I plan on having it finished by the end of this year.

3. What book do you have yet to read because it’s a sequel?
A. Torment by Lauren Kate. Started reading it and then realized it was a sequel. Oops.

4. What book do you have yet to read because it’s brand new?
A. Daily Rituals for Happiness by Lauren Ostroski Fenton. She released it on Kindle 2 days ago but I'm waiting for the paperback version to order it. It should be some time this week. The author a YouTuber and wellness coach from Australia and I've been watching her videos for years now. It's her first book and it's been in the works for a long time, so it's all pretty exciting!

5. What book do you have yet to read because you read a book by the same author and didn’t enjoy it?
A. People of the Deer by Farley Mowat. I was introduced to his writing with Eastern Passage, which came out in 2010 and liked it but not nearly as much as I thought I would. He is a renowned environmentalist and author and I think I expected way too much from his latest book. However, many reviews online recommend revisiting his older works because they're supposedly amazing. I'm actually pretty excited to get to them.

6. What book do you have yet to read because you’re just not in the mood for it?
A. Smoke by Ellen Hopkins. Hopkins touches more than a few heavy subjects in this book and I tend to be influenced by stuff I read... a lot. These days I try to focus on more positive topics.

7. What book do you have yet to read because it’s humongous?
A. Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. I've been eyeing it at the library for years and never got the courage to start reading it.

8. What book do you have yet to read because it’s a cover-buy that ended up not having great reviews?
A. The Serial Book of Serial Killers by Tom Philbin, Michael Philbin. It looks cool but has very bad reviews (most are stating, among other things, that some ''facts'' in the book are found to be inaccurate). I'm stubborn and already halfway through the book so I'll probably finish it anyway.

9. What is the most intimidating book on your TBR?
A. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. I don't know why but it seems super intimidating to me. I'm afraid I won't understand the story, or that I won't enjoy it. It's such a popular book and almost everyone loves it, and I might look dumb if I just don't get it. I still want to read it, though!

1. What book have you been unable to finish?
Endgame by James Frey and Nils Johnson-Shelton. It's huge, it gets pretty confusing and as much as I want to finish it because it looks awesome... I just can't do it lol.

2.What book do you have yet to read because you just haven’t had the time?
Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi and Curt Gentry

3. What book do you have yet to read because it’s a sequel?
Go Set a Watchan by Harper Lee. I had begun reading it because I did love To Kill a Mockingbird but I feel like I need to re-read TKAM before I can read this one. R.I.P. Harper Lee.

4. What book do you have yet to read because it’s brand new?
Attack on Titan 18 because I haven't had the opportunity to read the 17th manga yet either.

5. What book do you have yet to read because you read a book by the same author and didn’t enjoy it?
The Host by Stephenie Meyer. As much as I was addicted to the Twilight books while I was reading them, I wouldn't re-read them. The Host seems really interesting but I don't want to be disappointed.

6. What book do you have yet to read because you’re just not in the mood for it?
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. I want to read it, but I just never feel in the mood for it. I think it's because I know once I start, I'm binging the entire series and I just don't want to start a series right now.

7. What book do you have yet to read because it’s humongous?
And The Sea Will Tell by Vincent Bugliosi and Bruce Henderson. It's huge PLUS I feel like I need to finish Helter Skelter before moving on to another one of his true crime novels.

8. What book do you have yet to read because it’s a cover-buy that ended up not having great reviews?
The Monster's Notes by Laurie Sheck. It's basically a retelling of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein which sounds interesting. The cover looks odd and that's why I got it but the reviews aren't all that great and it has a 2.9 of 5 rating. Could still be good though, just need to get around to it!

9. What is the most intimidating book on your TBR?
1984 by George Orwell. It's a classic and I'm afraid of not liking it to be perfectly honest.

I've definitely wanted to read the Raven Boys Series too! I have put it off for years.
