For my first review on my blog, I'd like to talk about The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson. The moment I read the summary on the back, I was hooked. Not to mention, the book cover for this book is absolutely gorgeous.
The story is about a princess named Lia who decides to run away from her arranged marriage to a prince from the neighboring country of Dalbreck. She runs off with one of her servants, and best friend, not knowing that there are two men tracking her down. One of these men is the prince that she pretty much stood up while the other one is an assassin on a mission with her as his target.
What I found extremely cool about this book is the layout. Now, check this out. Whenever we read from the point of view of either prince or assassin, there is no mention of their names or their description. So, when Lia gets the chance to meet these two handsome men, she learns of their names along with us. With this, we are left to figure out which man is actually the assassin and who is actually the prince. This drove me so crazy that I could not for the life of me put the book down. I wanted to know who was who so badly and I was scared to find out which guy was the assassin because honestly, both guys seem so kind and so amazing. It was hard to even be team whoever. Even now as I just started reading the second book of the series, The Heart of Betrayal, I still don't know who I like more. I'm excited to learn a lot more about these characters that I just love so far.
This book contains adventure, self-discovery and such beautiful scenery and descriptions. There's even an interesting romance for those readers who just love to have that romantic charm in a read like I do.
I give this book a 4 out of 5 and I hope you guys like it as much as I do!
