(I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.)
This is Me. is an incredible story that blends both Sci-Fi and romance while also underlining quite serious problems that occur in our very own society. In this book, people are able to buy these robotic figures, known as Asists. Asists are personalized to look exactly like a human and they are there to serve and help out in any way. Now that Chloe has Rogan, a very handsome Asist at her side, her parents finally agreed to let her move out into the city. With a new job, new friends and possible new man in her life, everything seems to be going up from here. The only thing that seems to be confusing is her relationship with Rogan. There’s something more to him and she doesn’t know what it means just yet.
C.E. Wilson’s new book was a very unique read. From the very beginning, I loved the relationship that Chloe had with Rogan and the moment Niven turned up into their lives, I couldn’t help but root for Rogan every step of the way. His connection to her, even though he doesn’t necessarily have a pulse, felt much more genuine and real than the connection she had with Niven. The idea of him learning to feel and to love was just so heart-warming. I just loved him. I think the only thing I didn’t enjoy about this book was the repetitive arguing that happened a lot between the characters. I felt like most of the time, they were fighting each other about their beliefs and on whose are right or wrong. I guess it’s just that, after a while, I’d have hoped that everyone would learn to agree to disagree in a sense but in a way, that wouldn’t be too realistic with such a pressing issue. It kind of goes hand in hand with our social struggles in our world. No matter what, people still argue about it.
There has never been a disappointment when reading a book by C.E. Wilson. Her writing is just so on point and her characters seem so real and full of life, machine or not. I rated this book a 4 out of 5.
