12/31/2015

First, I would like to wish everyone out there Happy Holidays! I had a great time this year. I got to spend time with many of my friends and family and I got to see many smiles. I even got to share my love of books with my brother as he started a big manga collection this year. I had a lot of fun shopping at the book store and not only did I buy really cool books to my book-loving friends and family, I received quite the amount of books that I am extremely excited to read in the new year!

I won't go into extreme detail with each book because this post would go on forever but I will briefly talk about them.

So I got 14 books this Christmas! Wow! I am set for the next little while when it comes to reading.

My friend B was awesome and picked me up a copy of The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson. As the title explains, 100 year old Allan Karlsson escapes the nursing home through the window to embark on an adventure. I heard about the movie but I didn't know it was based off of a book and it sounds so funny and alive; I think I'm going to love this one.

My boyfriend's wonderful mother bought me 4 books I've been super excited to read. They're actually 4 that I have mentioned during my December Mid-Month Post! She picked me up a copy of Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff which I hope will change my life. She also got me a copy of An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir which sounds simply fantastic. I hear it is like a YA version of Game of Thrones and GoT is one of my favorite TV shows of all time. I received a copy of Dangerous Lies by Becca Fitzpatrick which completes my collection of her amazing novels and I also received The Lake House by the wonderful Kate Morton. I have heard amazing things about Kate Morton and I'm excited to be reading one of her books for the first time.

As I am a big Hunger Games fan, my mother ordered me the new Flaming Editions from the UK! I absolutely love the covers but I was a little disappointed with the mail handling as there are many dents in the corners but that's okay. They look amazing. She also gave me a gift card to our local book store so along with the gift card I got from my boyfriend's grandmother, I was able to order a lot of books that I've been wanting for a while. I finally received the 20th Anniversary Edition of Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and all I can say is I've fallen in love. I will be treasuring this book with my life. I pre-ordered Passenger by Alexandra Bracken and was surprised to find it in the mail a week before the release date! Best thing ever. I'm really excited to read this one. Similar to Outlander, it involves time travel but instead of having Sotland as its primary setting, this one involves a ship and trying to find a special object. I also ordered two Nora Roberts Novels; one being Jewels of the Sun and the other being Tears of the Moon from the same series: The Gallaghers of Ardmore Trilogy and those aren't the only Nora Roberts book I've received this year!

I received bonus points from the book store we have here for Christmas and it was enough to order two books! One of these books is Key of Knowledge by Nora Roberts as I am almost done reading the first of The Key Trilogy: Key of Light. I will be posting a review on this one hopefully pretty soon. The other book I ordered was Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes. I've been really wanting to jump into a fantasy novel again and this one sounded perfect.

These were all of the books I have received for Christmas and I bet there will be a lot of reviews based on these in the near future. What books or book related items have you guys received over the Holidays this year???

P.S. Come check out the blog tomorrow as I will be posting my January Announcement! I will be announcing something new I'm going to try this year along with the January Book of the Month!

Until then, have a good New Year's Eve!

December Book of the Month: Let it Snow by Maureen Johnson, John Green and Lauren Myracle

It was the night before Christmas…

Let it Snow contains three wonderful holiday stories that interconnect with one another. The whole book takes place in the same small town during a snow storm.

The first story in this book is by Maureen Johnson and it involves a teenage girl named Jubilee who is going through so much bad luck on Christmas Eve. I actually think that this one was my favorite out of the three and my dear friend B thinks the same way. It contained sarcasm, humor and just a bit of romance. I loved getting to know Jubilee and Stuart and the adventure they have walking through the storm.

The second story was hilarious and I wouldn’t have expected more from John Green. Let’s just say it involves three teenagers adventuring through a storm to get to a Waffle House because beautiful girls are stuck there waiting out the storm. This story had such a crazy adventure and I just couldn’t put the book down. It was incredibly funny and you felt like you were in that storm with them running towards the Waffle House as fast as they could.

The third one by Lauren Myracle was also good but there was one character that confused me to no end and the way that the main character always thought about herself made it slightly annoying but she was meant to be seen that way for a reason until the very end.

I just have to say that I will be reading this book during every Christmas Holiday. It really gets you in the Holiday spirit and I highly recommend reading it. I can’t wait for the movie coming out next year!

I give this book a 5 out of 5!
B also gives this book a 5 out of 5!
That’s how good it is. Seriously, go read it!

To those who have read this book or are thinking of reading it, let me know what you think in the comments!
P.S. What was with the Tinfoil Man???

December Mid-Month Post: Top books on my Christmas list!

12/15/2015

For Christmas, like every year, I ended up with a very long TBR list. The following books are ones that I’m extremely looking forward to reading after the Holidays!

The number one book that I have at the top of my Christmas list right now is the 20th Edition of Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I fell in love with the show Outlander this year and after finding out that it was based off of a series, this is definitely a must-get book for my collection. I especially love the design they have for the 20th Edition. It’s absolutely gorgeous! Outlander is the story of Claire Randall who finds herself taken two centuries back in time. There’s everything you need in this series. You have romance, action, politics, humor and it’s simply fantastic from what I’ve seen while watching the show. I can’t wait to read this book and the rest of the series.

Another book I put on my Christmas list this year is Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. The reviews on this book alone made me want to try reading this book. What I hear is that this book is like no other and it’s a totally new reading experience. This book is set in the year 2575 where there is an invasion causing Kady and Ezra to evacuate. What makes this hard is the fact that they broke up the morning of said day. From the reviews, I get the sense that his book could be quite the game changer when it comes to reading. I can’t wait to find out if it is!

In another genre, one of the books I have on my list is Jewels of the Sun by Nora Roberts. The first books I’ve read by this author are the ones in her Cousins of O’Dwyer trilogy. I absolutely loved the magic and the Irish setting was stunning. I tried reading another book by her but I felt it didn’t get to me the way I wanted it to as I missed the way Nora painted beautiful Ireland. A close friend of mine just bought Jewels of the Sun from her Gallaghers of Ardmore trilogy and she said it was amazing. She went through all three books in no time at all and I felt like this should be the next book I read by her.

There are many more books on my list including An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir, Dangerous Lies by Becca Fitzpatrick and The Lake House by Kate Morton. I will have a Christmas Book Haul post sometime after the Holidays as I will be very excited to talk about the new books I will receive!

What books will you fellow bookworms be putting on your Christmas List?
Or, what books are you looking forward to reading over the Holidays?

December Announcement

12/1/2015

Book of the Month!
For December, we have a nice Holiday themed book for our book of the month. We will be reading Let it Snow by John Green, Lauren Myracle and Maureen Johnson. This book has three separate Holiday stories that interconnect during a snowstorm on Christmas Eve. I think this book sounds pretty cute and I've been wanting to buy it for the past three years. Now that I know a movie will be coming out next Christmas, I was determined to read it this year. Usually our book of the month review is the last Friday of every month but since this one falls on Christmas, we will be having it a week ahead on the 18th of December. I'm looking forward to reading this one! Join me on the 18th for a brief review!
