The Unquiet Past was really interesting. Kelley Armstrong wrote this book in a collaboration with 6 other authors to write a series called Secrets. All 7 books of this series involves a different girl on her way to discover their real family after the orphanage burns down. It was great to have the chance to read what Tess goes through and I'm looking forward to read what the others figure out as well! It’s been a while since I’ve read a book like this and I loved the suspense of it all. I loved the plot but I felt as though it could have been more developed. It starts off with something happening at the orphanage which was a great start and caught our attention right away but it got a little slow after that. Once the build-up started, it just seemed as though it kept building up higher and higher until it couldn’t anymore, leading to an abrupt ending. I found the story to be very enjoyable. It had me at the edge of my seat and it had the perfect amount of suspense and creepiness considering I’m not one to read books that are usually creepy. Her secret was very interesting too and it was great learning more about it as the story progressed. We did feel though that her secret could have been hinted much earlier in the story since it felt sort of random when it was brought to light. Other than that, it was great reading through quite a few twists and turns, lies and truths.
This month, not only did B and I read this book but his girlfriend, Cat, decided to join our Book of the Month for a while! We will be having 3 separate ratings at the end of this review since she wanted to share her thoughts on this story with us. She had mentioned: “The Unquiet Past was the first book that I’ve read by this author and it made me want to read a lot more by her and see what more she has to offer.” It was my first book that I’ve read by her and I feel the same way. I’ve already started looking up more of her books. I did say that maybe the build-up felt rushed but this book was also written to be part of a series of shorter books and so it could possibly be that the author had so much to say. Her other books are known to be relatively longer and I’m excited to discover more by her.
Overall, this book held a lot of suspense that kept you on your toes and just enough creepy for those of you like me who have never been a fan of scary reads. It was a very fast read with a lot of build-up, twists and turns and even a tiny bit of romance. I really enjoyed this book and I recommend it if you want something fast and suspenseful.
I give this book a 3.25 out of 5!
B gives this book a 3 out of 5 and Cat, who I’d like to say welcome to our little Book Club, gives this book a 3.5 out of 5!
P.S. I can’t wait to announce the book we chose for next month guys! I’ll tell you all about it on the May 1st!
Talk to you guys tomorrow!
