I LOVED this book. When I first mentioned this as the book of the month, I remember saying that it was said to be more of a young adult version of Game of Thrones and I truly did see similar aspects. It was fantastic; there was magic, adventure and a lot of moments that kept you at the edge of your seat.
In a country where magic is fading and the land is slowly dying, three conflicting kingdoms are aiming to fight for what’s left. The kingdom of Auranos is still covered in rich soil and resources while the other two are not so lucky. The kingdom of Limeros is a much colder place ruled by a power-hungry King that wants everything done his way while the kingdom of Paelsia, caught in between, is hungry for hope and a better future. The story follows the lives of stubborn but brave Princess Cleiona of Auranos, the conflicted Prince Magnus of Limeros and his sister Lucia along with the rebellious Jonas from Paelsia.
When I first opened the book, I felt a bit overwhelmed when I saw that there was a legend of all of the characters but trust me when I say I was only overwhelmed for a minute. I thought it meant that I will have moments here and there where I will need to look back and see who certain characters were again but I was completely wrong. The writing was so smooth and I rarely had to look back at the legend. B had similar thoughts on this: “At first, the story-line seemed like it would be complicated but once I had read the first few chapters, I really got into it. I’m not usually into the fantasy genre but it was easy to follow and the break in between each character made it more suspenseful.”
There were so many emotions! When reading this, I’ve felt grief. I’ve felt strength. I’ve felt happiness and pain. There was such a world wind of emotions and you have to learn to expect the unexpected. Morgan Rhodes does not hold back when it comes to her writing. The world she created is so beautiful and elaborate that I not only want to read the next book; I need to read it. It ended in such a cliff-hanger and it is currently driving me mad! I loved every tale and legend within this book and I am not ready to leave this world just yet.
You guys need to read this book if you haven’t. I can’t believe I haven’t read it sooner!
I give Falling Kingdoms a 4.5 out of 5!
B gives it a 4 out of 5!
